This poem was inspired by the quote "Fears are educated into us, and can, if we wish, be educated out" by Karl A. Menninger, and by the training at Woodall's Self-Defense and Fitness. |
EDUCATED OUT! |
Little one, Stop!
Please don't breathe.
You know what will happen
If it's you he sees. |
Alone I am not
In this world I hear:
So I prayed to God
To rid of me of this fear. |
My child. please.
Stay away from the bad
They only want
What they shouldn't have had. |
And here's where he led me
And said to learn well:
For others are waiting
With the same story to tell. |
Little girl, NO!
Why can't you run?
He's just a young man:
A close friend's son! |
"And how will I help?"
I cried in a furry.
"For I fear all things:
I am weak and a worry." |
Young child, see?
No on cares that you hurt.
There is no protection.
Be Aware! Be Alert!
|
"Trust me," he said.
"I know what to do."
And so I am blessed
Because I met you |
No! Not Again!
You're just a young lady.
Don't listen to him!
Don't you know this is baiting? |
He gave you this talent
For people like me:
And now I can live
With some liberty. |
Don't Answer that door!
You'll regret it, you'll see!
They're not really your friends
And no one will believe. |
I thank him daily
For that fear that I bore
Departs each day
Like winter's last storm.
|
Almost a woman
For a stranger's lust:
As you sleep safely
It's you he will touch. |
And when I am finished
I will carry this on
Sharing with others
with the same burdened song. |
Open your eyes!
What do you see?
Wounded and scared
Now you must be. |
