The program is taught from the premise that children (and adults!) learn as they play. Incorporated into the lessons are many “drills” and games that teach skills through play and music. Respect, cooperation, and self-discipline, as well as social skills, are encouraged in class – but so is fun, laughter, and a joyful attitude. Safety skills are strongly stressed and continually communicated through training, stories, idea-sharing, and role-play. We teach that physical exercise is fun, good for the body, and good for the heart. If you look at this program as a triangle, safety skills, life skills, and martial arts/self-defense each form one leg.
We encourage feedback from parents, and may ask parents to watch during a particular class or to read a hand-out we send home with the child. We have many resources available for parents and children, and encourage parents to request information or bring anything to our attention that may improve the school or the quality of education we provide.
We worry about what a child will become tomorrow, yet we forget that he is someone today.
~Stacia Tauscher
Children are the living messages we send to a time we will not see.
~John W. Whitehead, The Stealing of America, 1983
Little girls are cute and small only to adults. To one another they are not cute. They are life-sized.
~Margaret Atwood
There are no seven wonders of the world in the eyes of a child. There are seven million.
